In our modern infrastructure, the lighting of railroad operations with their facilities, such as railroad stations, railroad operating stations, or track field facilities, generally plays an important role.
In addition to the relevant quality characteristics to fulfill the different visual tasks, such as illumination level, uniformity, and glare, quality characteristics to assess light emissions and energy demand also play an essential role. In Germany, the guidelines of Deutsche Bahn are applied (see given sources).

Outdoor railway tracks1

When evaluating outdoor track installations, in addition to the visibility, the limitation of glare is also important to provide a high-quality lighting situation to minimize hazards and improve the visibility of signal installations.
Furthermore, light pollution, nuisance to near-track residents, impact on wildlife, maintenance, and energy costs are important criteria in the implementation of lighting for track facilities.

Quality criteria: Visibility; safety; glare; light pollution.

Measured variables: Luminance, luminance distribution, illuminance, light color, and derived quality criteria for the assessment of visual perception.

Tracks in station area2

When evaluating track installations in the station area, in addition to making information easily visible, minimizing hazards is also important to achieve a high-quality and safe lighting situation.
Furthermore, limiting glare, creating a lighting situation offering a high sense of safety, maintenance and energy costs, and staging the architecture are important criteria for implementing lighting.

Quality criteria: Perceptibility; safety; glare; contrasts

Measured variables: Luminance, luminance distribution, illuminance, light color, and derived quality criteria for the assessment of visual perception

Railroad operating sites3,4

Occupational safety is important for assessing railroad operating sites to provide high-quality lighting to minimize hazards.
Furthermore, light immissions, impact on neighbors, maintenance and energy costs are important criteria for implementing a lighting system.

Quality characteristics: Perceptibility; safety; glare; light immission according to LAI

Measured variables: Luminance, luminance distribution, illuminance, immission guide value according to LAI , light color and derived quality criteria for assessing visual perception.

Our solution

TechnoTeam offers different LMK products, for this task. These are the LMK 6 models and the LMK mobile. In addition, TechnoTeam provides software add-ons that enable standardized evaluation according to the UGR method and the f(TI) method. Evaluations currently not subject to their own metrics can be performed intuitively with the included LMK LabSoft. The necessary statistical tools are included in the scope of delivery of LMK LabSoft.
